8:47 PM, August 8
Q: Under the issue of imperialism, many crises plague the country. As the next SR, how would you relate the issue of imperialism to the struggles of the broader masses? To the students?
UPLB’s Solomo: Imperialism is a hurdle to all nations. We will persist and resist as long as crises exist. We won’t succumb to imperial USA. There exists the economic development initiative, the Luzon Economic Corridor which can bring about developmental aggression. Only by immersing with the community there will their lived struggles be understood.
UPOU’s Manalili: There exists imperial centers that are imperial facades that don’t benefit the farmers. This is an issue that’s not well known. She cites her campaign paper, the No to Pax Silica alliance, and other anti-imperialist campaigns.
UP Mindanao Lozano: He emphasizes the need to strengthen alliances, mobilize immersions, and the bolstering of anti-war campaigns.
8:54 PM, August 8
Q: Now that fascism is worsening , incidences of military encroachment upon academic campuses is increasing, how do we struggle for the reinstatement of the UP-DND Accord?
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: UP has no business to deal with the fascist elements of the state. If the government can unilaterally dissolve the UP-DND Accord, we ought to assert the protection of rights and bring the campaign of reinstatement to the Board of Regents. This becomes imperative given how the today(August 8) marks the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Cooperation.
UPOU’s Manalili: We should institutionalize the Committee on Academic Freedom and Human Rights. The OSR shouldn’t be confined by the grasps of bureaucracy and typical conventions. This includes rescinding all partnerships between UP and the military.
The student publications in this issue also serve a crucial role of researching and enlightening the readers therefore the most concrete initiative it to strengthen the alliance between UP Solidaridad and the KSUP.
UPLB’s Solomo: Redtagging is rampant, especially with the UP Feb Fair therefore it’s important to underscore the harassment faced by the faculty and staff then forward them to the Board of Regent. Instating a system-wide safe haven operations also serves crucial.
9:01 PM, August 8
Q:How can you ensure that the mobilization and health of the alliances like the Defend UP Network under your term?
UPOU’s Manalili: Close coordination with councils and alliances are important alongside pre and post meetings. There ought to be summaries on the points to be forwarded every meeting. The strength of the OSR relies on the strength of the students so as while the Office is engaged in table battles and negotiations, the studentry will be there to support from the outside.
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: OSR deputees are important for the office’s operations. Once the OSR is capacitated, the studentry will be served.
UPLB’s Solomo: Revitalization of inactive networks is key. The OSR should also apply a multisectoral approach. There ought to be quick channels that bridge the local communities and the OSR to loudly broadcast the local campaigns to the Board of Regents.
9:03 PM, August 8
Q:How can you materialize the Kabataan Partylist’s DASURV (Delivery of Adequate and Accessible Services in Universities) Bill within the UP System?
UPLB’s Solomo: We are in support of the calls for the institutionalization of the DASERV bill as it will also help in the budget increase in education campaigns.
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: History shows how KPL serves crucial in forwarding the calls for genuine educational reform. It’s important that the Iskolar ng Bayans be unified.
UPOU’s Manalili: Lobbying at the House of Representatives will expose the studentry on the benefits and framework of the bill.
9:07 PM, August 8
Q:How can you utilize your platform for the campaign against bureaucrat capitalism?
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: Unifying the student institutions is a solution. There is also importance in the role of publications in exposing injustices and explaining them in basic terms.
UPLB’s Solomo: UP Action Network is crucial alongside carrying on organizing work.
UPOU’s Manalili: The Lean Alejandro Leadership Program alongside the Kasama sa UP is a means to further political education. If the Iskolars ng Bayan are able to learn more, it’s more likely that the initial anti-corrupt walkout of 18,000 will increase. We can also utilize existing alliances and capacitate national council representatives.
9:12PM, August 8
PM, August 8
Q:As the next SR, what would your campaign be on repressive academic policies?
UPOU’s Manalili: We should strengthen the will and courage of the studentry to stand unwavering against an administration that remains firm. UP is a hub of critical thinking therefore as UP students, we won’t allow ourselves to be subservient to a neoliberal education.
UPLB’s Solomo: Forwarding the struggles against retention policies is important . We don’t stop at clinching representation in the Board of Regents until we obtain spaces at our localities.
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: The studentry does not deserve to be constrained by contracts. We should review the Return Service Agreement issue faced by UP Manila and the schools of health sciences. This is in line with the plans for instituting a school of medicine in UP Mindanao.
9:17 PM, August 8
Q: The revised UP ASH (Antisexual Harassment) Code is constricting and is paralyzed by bottlenecks.
UPOU’s Manalili: There was a resolution before regarding instating gender officers which proves crucial in the implementation of the ASH code. Institutionally, there should be investigations on the bottlenecks and slow legal processes. The ideal solution, absent bureaucratic safeguards, is additional support. The issue of sexual harassment is patriarchal at its core therefore it is important to study the systems and culture that bring about these issues.
UPLB’s Solomo: Forwarding the struggles against retention policies is important . We don’t stop at clinching representation in the Board of Regents until we obtain spaces at our localities.
UP Mindanao’s Lozano: Capacitating the OASH offices will serve crucial to heed the demands of the students. Training peer facilitators is also vital because even if we disregard the bureaucracies, we should foster safe spaces devoid of the patriarchal culture behind the cases of sexual harassment.
UPLB’s Solomo: After his consultation with Baguio USC, he gives tribute to the resolutions passed by the GASC that denounce issues of sexual harassment. Peer facilitation is important. We will continue to clamor to increase the budget to capacitate the OASH and to afford psychosocial services to victims.
The issue of culture of impunity and patriarchal issues therefore mass education is the ideal answer in understanding .
9:22 PM, August 8
Q: Basic Mass Integrations (BMIs) and community immersions are being disregarded or looked down upon. How would your term approach the issue of bureaucratic processes and administrative approval for the conduct of these activities?
UPLB: These immersions are important to understand the plight f the masses. We must not be encaged by bureacracy, we should institutinalize solidarty missions. Just like gthe martyrs Alysa Alano and Maureen, we shouldn’t stray fr from servuce to the masses.
UPOU: We shouldn’t let burecrcy halt us.Fascists don’t even ask for consent to disparage communities. Thsiis not a matternof what ot what to not do . But this is a matter of what;s rigjt or wrong. It;s a matter of rught. We don’t have to ask permission becasue we are Iskolars ng By=ayan.
UP Mindanao: We don’t need to ask permission. If the mandate is to serve the people, what we puht to do is to immerse with the struggles of the marginalized. We should f]emulate the marytyrs who chose to use their talents to serve the people.
9:28 PM, August 8
Q: OSR’s are encouraged to file LOAs. Once in office, will you or will you not file?
UP Min: MagLOLOA. He is willinb to deidcate time for th 65k iskolars ng bayan.
